Kitchen extension, 98 Stanwell Road, Penarth
This recent kitchen extension in Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan, transformed an existing Victorian house by creating a bright, spacious and naturally lit addition designed for modern family living. Before the work, the rear of the property offered limited space and a weaker connection between the house and garden, which is common in many traditional Victorian homes.
Our role as architects was to rethink the layout and design a new extension that improved light, space and day-to-day usability while respecting the character of the original house. The design carefully balances contemporary living requirements with the proportions and setting of the existing property, creating a new kitchen and family area that feels generous, practical and welcoming.
After completion, the house benefits from a far more open and comfortable living space. Natural light now reaches deeper into the home, the kitchen has become a central gathering space, and the improved connection to the garden has changed how the property is used. This project demonstrates how thoughtful architectural design can transform a period home in Penarth, providing the additional space, comfort and quality that many homeowners are looking for.
